A Griffin's Tale
Legend of Creation
Legend says that our world was created by Griffins.
Many centuries ago, the first Griffin, Liantyr, created humans. The pure white Griffin was lonely on the new world of paradise he had molded. The humans learned many things, built homes with their hands to create villages across the ever-spreading world and farmed the land for food. Trees grew that the humans sowed and Liantyr blessed. Fruit blossomed and vegetables sprang up in bounty. The humans learned to hunt for meat with permission of Liantyr, giving them talismans that would ensure them against disease and illness from the meat they ate.
One day, a child wandered into a newly budding forest with Liantyr and ate a fruit from the ground; a fruit unlike any other that grew in the trees above. Made of many colors and seeming to glow with sparkling light, it drew the child in and whispered for her to taste the sweet nectar inside. The child developed strange new gifts not long after and only grew as she did. And so the first Fae was created. The humans feared one day the girl might lose control of her unnatural gifts, thus begged Liantyr to create guards.
Liantyr went into the forest and sought for the animals he created and selected a trusted few to guard the child and those in the villages. And thus, the Beasts were created, expanding into the Pack and the Pride. Much like werewolves and werecats, those chosen could shift from human form, to an unnatural in-between of brute strength and chaos, to their original animal form. Soon, fighting amongst the Pack and Pride began and innocent blood was spilled in its wake. Liantyr wept for the humans, whose blood soaked the earth beneath, and from his tears, the Blood were born. Vampires rose to stop the Pack and Pride wars and sent the humans to expand elsewhere and scatter for safety.
The Blood, closest to Liantyr now, created roses to be grown where innocent blood was spilled, as memorial to those who had not risen. Liantyr continued to weep for many months until the lakes and rivers flooded and washed away the blood under the bed of roses. From there, the Nymphs were born from the petals and blood. They sang a sweet song to comfort Liantyr and ate away his sadness and grief. Different from the Fae, and yet similar, the Nymphs ate away all the negativity until feeling was almost dead away.
And so, Liantyr took a bit from each of his creations and molded other Griffins and sent them out to watch over those he had created before them. Some say, that even to this day, there are Griffins. Silently watching, silently helping those in great peril or against those who seek to destroy the greater peace.
Now, in this time, we do not play with Griffins. No one is really sure if they exist, or ever existed, or if they created the world we now know. Many things have changed, many wars were fought, many deaths and many new lives, many truths and many lies.
But as to where the Griffins are, the Guardians will never tell.
